Evaluation and review

Every new Anypost account starts in evaluation. You can verify your domains, create API keys, and send real mail to addresses at your own verified domains. To send to anyone else, fill in a short application. We usually reply within one business day, and once you're approved and on a plan, your account goes live.

Anypost is a vetted network of trusted senders. Keeping it that way keeps the shared sending reputation clean, and that is what gets your mail to the inbox.

What evaluation allows

  • Sending to your own verified domains. Any recipient at a domain you've verified, over the HTTP API or SMTP. Mail to any other domain is refused with account_in_review.
  • Everything else. Templates, batch sending, webhooks, events, open and click tracking, and suppressions all work as they will once you're live.
  • Up to 10 sending domains, 3 webhooks, and 5 team members. Set up everything you plan to use, whatever your plan allows.
  • Sending limits. 3,000 messages a month and 100 a day. See Sending limits.

Paid plans open once your application is approved.

Testing end to end

Send to an address at the domain you verified. If you verified yourdomain.com, send from and to it:

curl https://api.anypost.com/v1/email \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer ap_AbCdEf12KxLmNoPq..." \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "from": "[email protected]",
    "to": ["[email protected]"],
    "subject": "Hello from Anypost",
    "text": "Hello, inbox!"
  }'

The message is delivered for real, so you can check its DKIM signature, tracking links, and unsubscribe headers in your own inbox. Its events reach your webhooks as they will in production, so your integration can be finished and tested before you apply.

The application

Apply from your dashboard: the banner at the top of every page links the application. It takes about five minutes and asks about:

  • your business and its website,
  • the domains you send from,
  • what you send, and who receives it,
  • how your recipients signed up, and
  • how much you expect to send.

We reply by email, usually within one business day. If we need more information, we'll ask, and you answer by replying to that email. Sometimes a short call is the quickest way to get there; it's always optional.

How we review

A person on our team reads every application. We're getting to know your business and the mail you send, and we look at the whole picture rather than a checklist. The firm lines are the Acceptable Use Policy and our rule on cold email.

Cold email

The application shows this definition, and you confirm you've read it before applying:

Cold email is any message sent to someone who hasn't asked to hear from you and has no existing relationship with you. We don't allow it on Anypost.

It covers more than most people expect. All of these count:

  • Business-to-business prospecting, sales outreach, and "just one email" introductions.
  • Email to addresses you bought, rented, scraped, or were given, including from a vendor that says its contacts opted in.
  • Cold email that is personalized, written by hand, or sent one at a time.
  • Small volumes of cold email: ten messages are as cold as ten thousand.
  • Cold email that is legal where you are, or that carries an unsubscribe link.
  • Cold email to addresses that are public, on a website, or on LinkedIn.
  • Cold email sent by your sales team, an agency, or a tool on your behalf.

If something looks off, we'll reach out. Deliberate or repeated cold email can result in your account being paused or terminated.

Going live

When you're approved, we email you a link to choose a plan. Your account goes live as soon as the subscription starts: the restriction lifts on its own, and we email you to say so. If your team is already on a paid plan, it goes live the moment you're approved.

Once one of your teams is live, new teams you create start live too.

If we can't approve an application, we'll email you. We don't share the specifics of a decision. Your account stays open, and you can keep sending to your own verified domains. Questions go to [email protected].

When a send is refused

While an account is under review, mail to a recipient outside its verified domains is refused with account_in_review, whatever the reason for the review.

HTTP API, single send. The request is rejected with 403 and nothing is sent:

{
    "error": "account_in_review",
    "message": "This account is under review and can currently send only to recipients at its own verified domains. See https://anypost.com/docs/evaluation."
}

A message with one outside recipient is refused whole, including its recipients at your own domains.

HTTP API, batch send. Only the entries with an outside recipient fail; the rest of the batch is sent:

{
    "status": "failed",
    "index": 3,
    "error": { "type": "permission_error", "message": "account_in_review" }
}

SMTP. Each outside recipient is refused at RCPT TO, before the message is transferred, and the rest are accepted:

550 5.7.1 account is under review and can currently send only to recipients at its own verified domains; see https://anypost.com/docs/evaluation

None of these are retryable. Send to an address at your verified domain, or wait until your account is live. If your dashboard doesn't offer the application, email [email protected].
